January is Kochi at its best — dry, sunny and as comfortable as a tropical port city gets, with highs around 31°C and lows near 23°C. Rain is rare (about 20mm) and humidity drops to its yearly low. This is the prime window for everything Kerala: sunset at the Chinese fishing nets, walking Fort Kochi and Mattancherry, an Alleppey houseboat under clear skies, and the cool tea hills of Munnar 4-5 hours away. Because conditions are ideal, this is also peak season — flights, heritage hotels and houseboats hit their highest rates and book out, so reserve well ahead. Note the UV index is extreme year-round at this latitude; the sun is strong even when the heat feels manageable. Sunscreen, a hat and hydration matter more than warm clothes here.

February holds the dry-season sweet spot — highs around 32°C, very little rain (about 25mm) and reliable sunshine. It's slightly warmer than January but still among the most comfortable months. Conditions remain ideal for the full Kerala loop: Fort Kochi's heritage streets, the fishing-net waterfront, an Alleppey houseboat and the Munnar tea estates. This is still peak season, so expect high prices and busy sights. February is also Kerala temple-festival season (dates vary by the Malayalam calendar), which can mean colorful local processions but also crowded roads. The sun is intense and UV extreme — the heat is dry-ish but the rays are strong. Prioritize sunscreen, shade in the midday hours, and plenty of water and tender coconut.

December is prime time — dry, sunny and comfortable, with highs around 31°C, lows near 23°C, low humidity and minimal rain (about 35mm). Conditions are ideal across Kochi, the backwaters and Munnar. It's also the busiest, priciest month: Christmas and New Year draw heavy domestic and international crowds, and the Cochin Carnival builds through late December into a lively New Year street celebration in Fort Kochi. Fishing-net sunsets, heritage walks, houseboats and tea-hill trips all come together under clear skies — but flights, hotels and houseboats hit yearly-peak rates and sell out, so book well ahead. The sun remains strong despite the pleasant feel, so keep up sunscreen and hydration. For guaranteed good weather and a festive buzz, December is the headline month — at a price.
