Hasedera Temple (40 min east by Kintetsu Osaka Line, $7 each way) is June's must-see — the 1,300-year temple holds 7,000 hydrangea plants in approximately 30 varieties across the temple grounds, peaking June 10-25 with white, pink, blue, and purple blossoms. The 399-step covered staircase (Noborirou) approaching the main hall is the canonical Hasedera photo — wooden roof + stone steps + hydrangea-lined corridor. June is Nara's most underrated month if you accept that you'll spend half your daylight either indoors at temples or under umbrella outdoors.
