January is prime time on the Riviera Maya — warm days around 28°C/20°C (82°F/68°F), comparatively low humidity, calm Caribbean sea around 26°C, and the least sargassum seaweed of the year. The dry season is at its best. It's also peak high season: crowds and prices are high (though the very top spike is Christmas/New Year just before). Beaches, 5th Avenue, and the day-trip sites are busy, so book ahead. Three Kings Day (Jan 6) is a major Mexican holiday worth catching. This is the window for the postcard version of Playa — clear turquoise water, comfortable cenote and ruin days, and reliable sunshine. The sea is good for swimming and the diving off Cozumel is clear. Note: the tropical sun is strong even in winter (UV around 8) — reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and water are non-negotiable. Evenings can be breezy, so pack one light layer.

February is one of the very best months — warm and dry around 28°C/20°C (82°F/68°F), with little rain, low humidity, and a calm, clear sea. Sargassum is still minimal, so the beaches look their best. It's firmly high season, drawing winter-escape travelers from the US and Canada and the first spring-break crowds, so prices and beach-bar energy are both high. Book hotels and day tours ahead. Conditions are ideal across the board: beach days, cenote swims, Cozumel diving, and the Tulum and Chichén Itzá trips all reward a February visit. Carnival, if it falls this month, adds some local festivity. Note: the sun is intense (UV around 9) — reef-safe sunscreen and a hat matter even on a breezy day. Sea breezes keep it comfortable; pack one light evening layer.

March is warm, dry, and sunny — around 29°C/21°C (84°F/70°F) — and very busy. It's the heart of US/Canada spring break, so 5th Avenue, the beach clubs, and the nightlife are at their loudest, and prices stay high. The weather is still excellent: little rain, plenty of sun, and a calm sea good for swimming and diving. Sargassum is usually low early in the month but can start appearing toward the end as the season shifts. If Easter (Semana Santa) lands in late March, expect a wave of domestic Mexican holiday crowds at the beaches and ruins on top of the spring-breakers — book everything ahead. Note: the UV is very high (around 10) and the spring-break scene is intense around the central beach and Calle 12 nightlife — pick a quieter north-end base if that's not your thing.
