July is Seoul's monsoon (jangma) peak — 405mm cumulative rainfall over 16 rainy days, the wettest month by a wide margin. Don't expect non-stop rain — most days have 1-2 hour heavy showers, often in the afternoon, with humid clouds the rest of the day. Folding umbrella mandatory.

Despite the rain, July has its own atmosphere. Crowds drop noticeably as Western tourists avoid the monsoon. Hotel prices return to off-peak levels — central Seoul 4-star hotels at $70-110/night vs $150-200 in spring.

Boryeong Mud Festival (3h from Seoul, mid-July, 9 days) is one of Korea's most fun festivals — Korean tourists and international visitors alike participate in mud wrestling, mud pools, mud baths. Day-trip-able from Seoul via KTX + bus, but better as overnight.

Korean summer school holidays begin late July (typically July 20-August 25). Domestic family travel surges — Lotte World Theme Park, Everland, Caribbean Bay water park all hit maximum capacity. Hotels in Gangwon-do (mountains) and Jeju become harder to book.

In Seoul itself, indoor culture peaks. K-Beauty shopping at Olive Young Myeongdong. Korean spa days at Spa Lei or 7Luck. Indoor cafés (concept cafés like the cafe-with-cat-cat-cat-cat) become refuges. Han River park visits limited to dry windows.
