Seville Weather

April is Seville's signature month and its busiest — around 23°C/11°C (73°F/52°F) with about 55mm of rain. Both of the city's great festivals fall now, and the weather is close to perfect. Semana Santa (the week before Easter) brings solemn processions of candle-lit floats and hooded penitents through the streets, often through the night. About two weeks later, the Feria de Abril explodes into a week of flamenco dresses, horseback riders, sherry, and dancing in decorated tents (casetas) across the Los Remedios fairground. The festivals are extraordinary, but they bring the year's biggest crowds and highest prices — central hotels double or triple and sell out 6 months ahead. Streets close for processions, and the city is packed. Note: if you want festivals, book very early and expect crowds; if you want the spring weather without the crush, target the gaps between the two events.

May is arguably the most beautiful month — around 27°C/13°C (81°F/55°F) with little rain (about 30mm) and the jacaranda trees in full purple bloom. Warm, sunny, and not yet brutally hot. There's no single big festival, which keeps it slightly calmer than April while the weather is at its loveliest. Long days mean late, balmy evenings perfect for tapas terraces and riverside walks. This is the last comfortable month before the summer extremes — outdoor sights like Plaza de España, the Alcázar gardens, and Triana are all enjoyable without the July-August heat. Demand and prices are still high, but below the April festival peak. Note: by late May the heat starts to build into the 30s°C (high 80s-low 90s°F), so do outdoor sightseeing earlier in the day and keep water on hand.

March is the start of Seville's best season — around 21°C/9°C (70°F/48°F) with about 55mm of rain. The famous orange-blossom (azahar) scent fills the streets, and the city feels alive with spring. In years when Easter falls early, Semana Santa (Holy Week) can land in late March — Spain's most dramatic religious festival, with candle-lit floats and hooded penitents. Check the date, as it brings crowds and higher prices. Outside the festival, March is a sweet spot: warm, blooming afternoons, comfortable sightseeing, and prices below the April peak. The gardens of the Alcázar and Parque de María Luisa look their best. Note: there's still a real day-night temperature swing, so carry a layer. If your trip overlaps Semana Santa, book well ahead and expect closed streets in the center.
