Amman in 7 Days — The Full Jordan Loop

City, Jerash, Dead Sea, Madaba, Petra (2 days) and a night in Wadi Rum

Seven days is the classic Jordan loop done at a humane pace. Days 1-2 are Amman and its northern/western day trips (Jerash, Dead Sea). Day 3 drives south via Madaba and Mount Nebo to Petra. Days 4-5 are two full days at Petra. Day 6 continues to Wadi Rum for a jeep tour and an overnight at a desert camp under the stars. Day 7 returns north (or flies out of Aqaba). This covers Jordan's headline sights — all of which sit outside Amman — without the punishing day-trips a shorter trip forces. Buy the 3-day Jordan Pass (Expert, 80 JOD) to cover two Petra days plus Wadi Rum and Jerash.

A full week is enough to actually understand Amman. Three days for the major districts, three days for nearby regions, and one day for the offbeat neighborhoods most tourists miss. The back half of the trip is more about texture than checking landmarks — your photos get more diverse and you walk away with a three-dimensional sense of the city.

Amman 7-Day Itinerary FAQ

Is 7 days enough for the full Jordan loop?
Yes — seven days is the sweet spot: Amman and its day trips, two full days at Petra, and a night in Wadi Rum, all at a sane pace. It hits everything most travelers come for. With more time you could add Aqaba and the Red Sea, the Dana Biosphere Reserve, or the desert castles east of Amman, but seven days covers the headline experiences.
Should I fly out of Aqaba instead of driving back to Amman?
If your itinerary allows it, flying out of Aqaba (about 1 hour from Wadi Rum) saves the long 4-hour drive back to Amman at the end. It works well for open-jaw tickets (into Amman, out of Aqaba) or domestic connections. Just confirm flight schedules before committing, and leave a generous buffer for the desert-to-airport drive.
How fit do I need to be for this itinerary?
Reasonably fit. Petra alone is 12-18 km a day with steep climbs (the Monastery's ~800 steps, the High Place trail), and Wadi Rum involves clambering on rocks. None of it is technical, but two Petra days plus the desert is demanding in heat. Pace yourself, hydrate hard, and wear proper shoes. Older travelers can use horses/donkeys for parts of Petra.
