Málaga Weather in December — Climate Guide

December in Málaga is mild and festive — averaging 18°C/9°C with around 5-6 hours of sun and the year's higher rainfall. It's strikingly gentle for a European winter, often called Europe's warmest winter city.

The highlight is the Christmas lights on Calle Larios — an elaborate, much-loved illumination (often with a music-and-light show) that draws crowds to the marble main street each evening. The festive atmosphere, markets, and decorations make the center lively in the run-up to Christmas.

Days are comfortable for sightseeing — the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro, the Picasso sites, the Cathedral, and the port — with rainy spells in between sunny stretches. The sea (around 17°C) is too cold to swim, but the seafront and chiringuitos stay open for espetos on the bright days.

Prices and crowds pick up around Christmas and New Year but stay below the summer peak; early December is quieter and cheaper.

Note: pack for both sun and rain, and a jacket for cool evenings — but expect far more sun than almost anywhere else in Europe this month.
