May in Málaga is warm, dry, and sunny — averaging 25°C/15°C with around 9 hours of sun and minimal rain. Many consider it the single best month: summer-like conditions without the July-August heat or peak crowds. It's ideal for everything — the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro climb in comfortable warmth, the Picasso sites, Soho, Muelle Uno, and the beaches starting to come alive. The chiringuitos fire up the espetos grills as the sardine season gets going. The sea (around 18-19°C) is warming and swimmable for the hardier, fully comfortable by late May into June. Day trips shine in May — the Caminito del Rey, Ronda, and Nerja with clear skies and pleasant temperatures, before the summer heat. Inland areas like the gorge and Ronda are warm but not yet baking. Prices rise with the strong spring demand, though they're below the August feria peak. Book popular sights and the Caminito del Rey ahead. Note: it's busy and warm, but rarely uncomfortably hot — a great all-round month.

September in Málaga is warm and sunny with the August crowds thinning — averaging 28°C/20°C with around 9 hours of sun. Along with May, it's often picked as the best month to visit. The heat eases just enough for comfortable sightseeing — the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro, the Picasso sites, Soho, and the port — while the sea stays at its warmest of the year (around 22-23°C), so beach days are still excellent and the chiringuitos keep grilling espetos. Crowds and prices drop after the August feria, making it strong value. Day trips come back into their own as the inland heat softens: the Caminito del Rey, Ronda, and Nerja are all pleasant again. Days are still long and bright. Late September can bring the odd short rain shower as autumn approaches, but mostly it's dry, warm, and golden. Note: it's a sweet spot — warm sea, lighter crowds, lower prices, and comfortable sightseeing all at once.

April is one of Málaga's best months — averaging 22°C/12°C with around 8 hours of sun and little rain. Warm, bright days make for ideal sightseeing. Semana Santa (Holy Week) usually falls in April, and Málaga's processions are among the most dramatic in Spain — enormous tronos carried by hundreds of bearers through crowded streets, with music and emotion, often deep into the night. It's spectacular but means big crowds, high prices, and closed central streets; book accommodation months ahead. Outside Holy Week, April is superb for the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro, the Picasso sites, Soho, and the port, plus day trips — Ronda, the Caminito del Rey, and Nerja are all at their spring best. The sea (around 17°C) is warming but still bracing for swimming. Late April, after Easter, often eases the crowds while keeping the lovely weather — a strong value window. Note: prices and crowds spike sharply around Semana Santa; plan and book early if your trip overlaps it.
