Positano Weather

May is arguably the finest month on the Amalfi Coast — warm, dry, and sunny, with the village fully open but not yet at high-summer saturation. It averages 22°C/13°C with just 55mm of rain over about 7 days and long sunny days. Everything is running — ferries, boat tours, restaurants, beach clubs — and the Path of the Gods is in great shape before the summer heat. The sea is warming (around 18°C) enough for hardier swimmers, and the hills and gardens (Ravello's Villa Rufolo) are in bloom. Crowds and prices climb through the month toward the summer peak, but May still feels more relaxed than July-August, with better availability and value. Long weekends and late May get busier. For the best balance of weather, openness, swimmable-ish seas, and breathing room, May is hard to beat. Book accommodation and ferries ahead, especially toward month's end.

September is one of the best months on the Amalfi Coast — still warm and sunny, the sea still warm, but with the August crush easing. It averages 27°C/18°C with about 70mm of rain over 6 days. The sea stays warm (around 25°C) well into the month, so swimming, boat trips, and beach days continue, while the heat eases enough to make the Path of the Gods comfortable again. Everything is still open and lively, and the hills carry the grape and lemon harvest. Crowds and prices ease from the August peak through the month, especially late September, making it better value with more breathing room — a favourite among repeat visitors. Early September is still busy and pricey, closer to August. Rainfall ticks up a little versus mid-summer, with the odd autumn shower or thunderstorm, but most days are fine. For the combination of warm seas, good weather, openness, and easing crowds, September rivals May as the prime time to visit.

April is one of the best months to visit Positano — warm, green, open, and not yet mobbed. It averages 18°C/10°C with about 85mm of rain over 9 days. The season is in full swing: hotels, restaurants, and ferries are running, the hills are lush, and spring wildflowers line the Path of the Gods, which is at its scenic best in the comfortable temperatures. Easter (when it falls in April) brings a busier, pricier spell, but otherwise crowds and prices are moderate. The sea is still on the cool side (around 15°C) for most swimmers, so April is more about hiking, boat trips on calmer days, the village, and day trips to Amalfi, Ravello, and Capri than beach lounging. This is a prime shoulder-season window — excellent weather, everything open, and far better value and breathing room than July-August. Book ahead around Easter and any long weekends, but otherwise April rewards with the village near its loveliest.
